Below is information about the 2018 Skowhegan Moose Festival, which was organized around Maine Inland Fisheries & Wildlife’s annual moose lottery. The moose lottery changes locations each year. Check with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife for information on the current year’s location.
Find all seven moose for a chance to win a $200 Cabela’s gift certificate!
How it Works
- The hunt starts Thursday, June 7 and ends Sunday, June 10.
- Using the clues below determine each of the seven participating Skowhegan businesses.
- Visit each business and locate the moose—could be stuffed, life-sized, hidden, or not!
- Record the name of the moose.
- Turn in all seven names and your contact information to us.
- We’ll review each entry and put all correct entries into a drawing for the $200 Cabela’s gift card.
Moose Hunt Clues
- Muddy Boots, Campfire S’mores, Lobster Tracks. It’s all so Maine — and so very delicious. You’ll definitely want to indulge at this summer spot!
- Got a green thumb? Find plants, gifts, and more at this business, home of the winter Skowhegan Farmers’ Market. [Moose only available during business hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thurs., Fri., Sat.]
- Find this tech spot downtown next to an authentic Asian eatery.
- Artisan wares abound in this seasonal shop close to the river. [We suggest stopping by during business hours—Thurs. and Fri. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sat. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—but if you can’t make it when they’re open, look for the moose in the window.]
- Once a mill, this restaurant offers spectacular river views. [Moose only available during business hours: Thurs., Sat., Sun. 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Fri. 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.]
- Located off Route 2, this business is housed in a converted chicken barn. If you’re 21+, grab a growler while you’re there! [Moose only available during business hours: Thurs. and Fri. 3 – 5:30 p.m., Sat. 12:30 – 5:30 p.m.]
- Live music, wood-fired pizza, and beer? There’s lots to love at this place on the outskirts of town. [Moose only available during business hours: Fri. 3 – 8 p.m., Sat. 12 – 8 p.m.]

Send all seven moose names AND your contact information (name and phone) to info@mainstreetskowhegan.org or bring a sheet of paper with the information to 48 Court Street, Skowhegan, Maine and drop it in the box on the porch.
Deadline for entries is Sunday, June 10 at midnight.
